Troisport series

The Troisport Joburg City Tri Series final race in the series took place in perfect racing conditions this weekend. The rain during the week leading up to the race cooled the water down sufficiently for Germiston lake to dip below the 22 degrees water temp to allow for a wetsuit swim. Much to the delight of many ironman guys testing out their equipment and fitness.
The series winners had already been decided in the previous 2 events as Erhard Wolfaart and Lucie Zelenkova had 2 wins a piece leaving the podium places still up for grabs and the win on the day still to be challenged for. With Erhard not racing due to international race commitments and Lucie out of sorts after being ill during race week the other contenders were keen to stamp there mark.
Lucie did start the race and exit the water first as has become customary here but soon pulled out during the bike leg to get better for her ironman preparations. This opened up the door to Lauren Dance the 19 year old up and comer and Katherine Du Buisson to push the pace on the bike with ever consistent Caroline Koll also in the mix.
Sander Berk, Hendrik de Villiers and Chris Felgate were all out the water close together and seemed go go though the bike with a few hard efforts to get away from each other but to no avail. Sander and Hendrik got off the bike together and it was going to come down to a foot race.
In the ladies race Lauren Dance raced very composed and didn’t look under any threat taking the win on the day and 2nd in the series while Caroline Koll finished a minute back and claimed the final podium spot for the series overall prize
The mens race was shaping up to possibly end in a sprint finish as the two Olympians flew through the run course but on the last lap Hendrik suffered from few cramps and Sander put the hammer down to run a 30min.38sec 10k run split to take line honors on the day.
The dates for next years series are set as 13 Dec 2010, 6th Feb 2011 and 6th March 2011.
