It has almost been a year since i first decided to to embark on the project of constructing “Boomer”, a sound and commentary rig, built specifically to service the sporting and entertainment industry.Boomer is a self powered sound rig built to provide all the necessary sound and commentary platforms for an average sized sporting event. This proved to be no small task, as it was a complete custom job and there was little to no information on how to go about building the rig.

Dj’ing and music was little more than a hobby at the time, and although i had done quite a bit of race commentary i had no clue on how sound equipment worked. I spent a long time discovering all the bits and pieces that made up a sound system and what was need to power it out in the field. The first step however was to attain the correct vehicle, having done quite a bit of work with Nissan over the past couple of years, the Nissan Navara made a very suitable choice, the fact that it is probably one of the most capable double cabs in its class as well as being the best looking, the decision process was easy!

Next i had to decided on the sound equipment, having scanned the internet and spoken to many a people in the field, i decide that JBL would be the best option firstly because it is a great performing system and secondly because it is well known by the general public as a quality make, this is obviously and important point when trying to sell the quality of your rig. After weeks of searching i managed to find a suitable powering mechanism to power the entire rig for 10-hours, making it totally self sufficient, the best thing is never having to rely on race organisers to provide clean power that is easily accessible.

I had to find a way to get all the equipment into the back of the events vehicle, keeping it safe an secure with as well as protected from the elements. This proved to be no small task as it was very difficult to find guys with the knowledge on construction of conceptual ideas and a way to keep it in budget. Eventually it has all come together and the events vehicle is ready to go, after two successful events over the past weekend, most of the minor bugs have been worked out and Boomer is ready to entertain audiences everywhere.
